Wow finally authentic Mexican cuisine. One of the best places I've been to. We were seated immediately. Bare in mind the actual restaurant is within a market store. The menu has a wide variety of choices from tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. I ordered two tacos, marinated pork, and they were crazy good. Also you can order American style or Mexican style. American has tomatoes, cheese, etc. like something you would get from Taco Bell. Mexican has just onions and lettuce. Food was hot, fresh, and delicious. Service was ace, and the environment was an aesthetic. What are you waiting for? Stop going to Taco Bell and go to the real places!

OMG AMAZING. We fed a family of 3 for $16! (7 tacos and 2 quesadillas). This little place is super cramped and everyone is speaking Spanish so I have no idea what they are saying but OMG is the food DELISH. We are staying in Lake Geneva for a few nights and we'll probably end up picking up dinner from here tomorrow night too. Can't beat the price. They could totally charge more because it's worth it. I'm in a euphoric state of taco coma right now. SO GOOD. Tip: There is a difference between "Mexican style" and "American style" tacos. Check out the photos people have posted. American style is cheese and sour cream and tomatoes Mexican style is none of those things. My husband got the Mex style and was jealous of my American ones.

I am from El Paso, TX so I know Mexican food. I was pleasantly surprised to find this authentic Mexican market place and restaurant in Lake Geneva. You have to know what you want because they are a bit shy when it comes to asking you air making suggestions. I recommend tacos al pastor Mexican style (onions with cilantro) or American style (cheese, cream, and tomatoes) with Horchata to drink. They have menudo on the weekends! You will love this place.

The facts: - 5 minute drive from Lake Geneva, if that. - Small restaurant in back of store. - Best. Mexican. Food. Ever. Seriously. The burritos are enormous and priced at $5 which is insane. The tacos were delicious and tasty, though skip the guac - nothing special at all. But everything else ... simply the best Mexican food at almost absurdly low prices. 159/365

After a long night of drinking, my boyfriend and I had a craving for tacos. We're from Chicago, and there's a taco stand on almost every other corner, and we decided to try this place out. We sat against a window and the kind, young looking waitress gave us chips and salsa. Salsa was very mild and the chips were cold. Kinda dissapointing. I ordered bistec tacos with cilantro and onion, and my boyfriend had carnita tacos. They were hot, fresh and delicious. I would of liked more limes (she only gave us half a lime for 2 people with 9 tacos). It's a typical supermercado about a mile from downtown Lake Geneva. All in all it was good, cheap and fast.

Zero customer service. Me and my boy friend both got water to which they brought us warm tap water with no ice. Mine had something floating in it! Then we ordered our food, both got the chicken quesadilla. They were good, but he found a bone then later found a rubbery piece in his... Nobody came up to us the whole time besides to bring us our food. Then after we were done no one brought us a check so my boyfriend decided to just go up to the store register and ask if we paid there and she said yes. Like what. We had to tell her what we had too. The food was not good enough to go back!! Never again!

Awesome little 6 table resturant in back of grocery store. We got pork tacos and Quesidilla and both were very good. Glad we decided to try this place for some authentic Mexican food. Unfortunately at shortly after noon they were sold out of tamales already.

Delicious little Mexican joint just a few minutes away from downtown. I loved the arrachera plate and the chorizo quesadillas. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. It's pretty tiny, but that's because it's behind a Mexican store. The service is super nice and friendly. Overall pretty great!

Highly recommend the Poblano and Cheese Quesadilla as well as the Chicharron tacos. Don't let the outside fool you. Small place with great food.

People that wrote the other reviews must live a sheltered life when it comes to authentic Mexican food. Our visit on 9/11/14 was inexpensive but not very tasty. The chips they provide before the meal are low quality. My wife had tacos authentic Mexican style. The beef were NOT ground beef as most Mexican restaurants use. That was quite a surprise. The refried beans and rice were adequate.

Small little mexican restaurant/store, but the food there is delicious. About a 5-10 minute drive north of downtown Lake Geneva. I did pass it up once when I tried finding it because it's kind of a small place, so you do have to keep an eye out for it. There carne asada is delicious and you can't beat ordering that whether it's tacos, burritos, tortas...whatever. Can't beat their prices either. I ordered a carne asada burrito, a carne asada torta, a quesadilla, a chorizo taco, a carnitas taco, 2 bags of chips, gummi worms and a Mexican candy.....all for 20 bucks and some change.....all that food fed my wife, my son and I. The only downside is the inside of the store is a little small and cramped, with that said, this is not a place for large groups, but perfect for carry-out. Also, there are no signs to tell you where the restaurant part of the store is (back, left side from the entrance) but once you find it, you won't be disappointed.

Wow! A hidden gem indeed!!! I haven't had Mexican food this good or authentic in a long time. My hubby and I started off with chips and salsa. Their guacamole is awesome, fresh with a nice kick! For dinner we had Mexican style carnitas and steak tacos, Mexican and American style shrimp tacos (which they happily made special since I am a vegetarian) and cheese enchiladas. Everything was super delicious and the service was out of this world! Get in your car (or run if you're lucky to live close by) and check this place out - your stomach will thank you!!!

The other reviews were right. The food was great, very reasonable prices, but don't expect a large restaurant. We had the chili quesadilla, a burrito and some tacos, everything was delicious. The salsa was hot and the guacamole was creamy. Worth the drive out of Lake Geneva.

Ever since El Planque shut down in Lake Geneva, I have been searching for something decent to replace it!! Although, it is certainly not the same as El Planque, Tienda El Rancho is very good and very cheap. I need to start by saying that this is certainly a market first, restaurant second. Upon first walking in you wouldn't even know there was a restaurant! Yet, tucked in the back there it is. The whole place is very authentic. There are a few small tables on the side of the store. My sister and I got our lunch to go mostly because we were confused as to what to do. We didn't really know how things worked as there isn't any wait service or any menus (at least that I was made aware of). I approached the counter in the front of the store where a women working the cashier was standing. I asked if we could place an order to go with her. Since we never saw a menu, we basically ordered based on former reviews. We ordered 2 carne asada tacos each. We were asked if we would like "American" or "Mexican" tacos. Mexican of course. The woman informed me that they have a $8 minimum in order to charge my credit card and then stated our current order was only about $5. My first thought was HOLY CRAP, THIS PLACE IS CHEAP!! I then asked what she recommended and she listed off some very american favorites, burritos, quesadilla, etc. We ordered two carne asada tacos each and a steak quesadilla and a bag of takis- total $10.32. On the way home, my sister almost dug into the food because it all smelt so good. When we got back we both devoured the tacos. They were delicious and very authentic! The quesadilla wasn't my favorite but it was still good. I think it would have been better without meat. I look forward to going back and trying something else. I am betting that they have good tamales (if they serve tamales-- hard to say because of the menu issue!). Overall good experience! My sister says she is also going back!

Really good, really authentic Mexican food. It's more of a takeout place than eat-in. We had chips, salsa, guacamole, cheese enchiladas, and carne asada tacos. All were very good. Prices were great too. We will be back.

Best steak tacos in Lake Geneva. While they may be the only Mexican restaurant left in town, it's not surprising that they've survived while others have failed.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
